Division three side Hambleton FC took the plaudits after battling through to the final of the York Sunday Morning Football League Ian’s Cars of Barlby League Trophy.

Hambleton beat semi-final opponents Bubwith Nomads 4-1 with Craig Hardy opening the scoring for Hambleton before Nomads hit back to make it 1-1 by the break.

In the second period, Nigel Croad restored Hambleton’s lead and then Neil Coleman and Matty Dunne struck to seal the win.

Cup favourites Station will face Hambleton in the final after they saw off Severus 4-2.

Twice Severus led, but Station levelled each time through a Wayne Brook penalty and a Luke Crowther piledriver.

Severus then missed a penalty and shortly after Josh O’Neill crossed for Steve Lyon to head in before a Will Ramsey goal wrapped up victory.

In division one of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby League, Hounds took full advantage of their two title rivals being on cup duty to go top by beating Enterprise 5-2 thanks to a brace from Louis Blackwell plus Matty Howden, Jeremy James and Chris Blackwell goals.

Derwent United’s Dean Nuttall struck all four goals in the 4-2 win over division two champions King William who replied through Sam Lingard (penalty) and Tom Bissett.

Second-placed Beeswing kept up the pressure on division three leaders Bubwith Nomads by beating Hemingbrough 5-0 with goals from Myron Turbine (2), Callum McKenzie (2) and Robert Whithead.

With games in hand on the top two, Hambleton won 3-1 in a midweek match to keep their faint title hopes alive thanks to a brace from Neil Coleman and an Andrew Robinson effort.

An Alex McKay strike, plus an own goal, saw New Earswick beat FC Barlby 2-1 to move off the bottom.

Brayton missed the chance to go clear at the top of division four after losing 1-0 to visitors Cross Keys. Luke Kitson’s own goal settled the matter.

Third-placed Bishopthorpe finished their season with a 2-1 win over LNER Builders thanks to goals from Matty Howden and Andy Manns, LNER’s reply coming from Nick Robinson.

Bubwith need to win their last game to clinch the division five title after being held 4-4 by visitors York RI.

On target for the front-runners were Alex McRae (2 penalties), Tom Robinson and Will Nicholson. Gareth Fisher, Dale Holding, Gareth Strain and Gary Rylance netted for the visitors.

Five Lions moved into second spot after beating F1 Racing 5-1 with a brace from Liam Keenahan, plus goals by Luke Laverack, Mike Lacey and Alex Webster. Racing’s lone reply came from Craig Hardcastle.

Joshua Young hit a hat-trick but still finished on the losing side when his team FTR Burnholme lost 4-3 at St John.
