York City Ladies have won a £500 grant to help bridge the race gap between a selection of York schoolgirls and their Bradford counterparts.
Coaches Paul Ryan and Robert Pearson have set up a festival between an Under-11 group from Westfield Primary, U13s from Oaklands Sports College and two Bradford Schools, Thornbury Primary and Laisterdyke Secondary.
The event has been pitched to coincide with the Islamic month of Ramadan, the festival of Eid al-Fitr and the Sikh and Hindu festival of Diwali. It is also hoped it will kick-start girls' football in the two Bradford schools.
The day will feature a tournament for each age group, plus coaching.
