Donald McCain and Jason Maguire, enjoying another tremendous season, can maintain their remarkable momentum at Sedgefield this afternoon by completing a double.
The powerful Cheshire duo, on a high after the multi-talented Overturn had highlighted his chances of winning next month’s Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival with a superb display at Musselburgh on Sunday, can score with Up And Go and Salto Chisco.
Up And Go looked smart at Wetherby last month when winning by seven lengths.
A 7lb penalty may not be enough to halt his progress in the John Wade Skip Hire Novices’ Hurdle.
Salto Chisco bids for compensation after his debut defeat in the John Wade Demoliton Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race.
The five-year-old was all the rage first time out at Uttoxeter and was sent off the 6-5 favourite before finishing second. He can make amends this time.
It would be most appropriate, considering that John Wade is sponsoring two races on the card, that he also has a winner.
And that may come with No Way Hozay in the Get Bookmakers Free Bets With bookmakers.co.uk Handicap Chase.
Although he lacks a bit of size, No Way Hozay lacks nothing in resolution and he rattled up a Catterick double last month.
He has obviously climbed in the ratings since and it may be that the handicapper now has his measure. But he is not one to dismiss easily, given his latest form.
In the Jardines Catering Handicap Hurdle, Seymour Eric is going for a hat-trick of wins.
Trained near Cheltenham by Martin Keightley, the eight-year-old has won at Hereford and Towcester this season. Those wins were gained off ratings of 85 and 92 and Seymour Eric is now up to 110.
He will need to raise his game again to prevail, but there is every chance he can do so and make his long journey north worthwhile.
At Southwell tomorrow, Caledonia Prince is napped to return to winning ways on his favourite course.
Jo Hughes’ five-year-old ran a sound enough race to finish third at Wolverhampton on his latest start last month, but the return to this Fibresand circuit, which has been closed all winter until this week, is a plus for the gelding.
Caledonia Prince has gained all his three career wins on this course. He is selected to make it four in the coral.co.uk Classfied Stakes.
Irish raider Waterloo Sunrise should not be overlooked in the Casino At coral.co.uk Handicap.
The eight-year-old came good at Dundalk – Ireland’s only all-weather track – a month ago and is plainly in good heart. Derek McCormack’s 5lb claim will again come in handy.
Graham Lee, who returned to the saddle in recent days after a mid-winter break, has prospects of a couple of winners on the Southwell card.
He looks a significant booking for the John Jenkins-trained Bladewood Girl in the opening race, the Bookmakers.co.uk Handicap, and also for Atlantic Beach, who should go well for Milton Bradley in the selling race.
