Mimi Mouse, who made an encouraging return to action at Thirsk recently when finishing a close up second, can fulfil that promise at Catterick tomorrow.
Those of you expecting this racing to take place at Redcar should take note of the change of venue, which has been caused by a transfer of fixtures, following an an announcement from Redcar that their newly-constructed paddock bend has not settled down quite enough to allow horses on it. It is, however, hoped that Redcar will be fit for racing come their first big meeting featuring the Zetland Gold Cup later this month.
Mimi Mouse, trained by Tim Easterby, found only Aegean Dancer too strong on her comeback outing at Thirsk, but she went down by little more than a length.
With David Allan again in the saddle, there is every chance that Mimi Mouse can go one better in tomorrow's Raceday Hospitality Fillies' Handicap. Hypnosis, a previous course winner, looks the main danger.
Easterby and Allan have an interesting runner in the opening catterickbridge.co.uk Maiden Stakes in Moonlight Gambler.
Easterby has already had a debut juvenile winner this season, and Moonlight Gambler, a son of Captain Rio, has the right sort of pedigree to make a precocious two-year-old.
Nota Liberata should not be overlooked in the Catterick Ladies' Night 8th May Handicap.
The three-year-old ran some good races here last season and, with two outings under his belt this term, he should now be cherry-ripe. Neil Callan looks a positive booking by Middleham trainer George Moore.
Richard Fahey has precious few runners at Folkestone, but the Malton trainer sends two horses on the long journey south, including nap selection Torrens, who goes for the John Smith's Handicap.
The five-year-old justified favouritism in convincing style at Pontefract last week and, because that was an apprentices' race, he gets in here without a penalty. He should give Paul Hanagan a winning ride.
Henry Candy has a couple of winning chances at Folkestone. The Kingstone Warren trainer can strike with the promising Pretty Miss in the John Smith's Maiden Stakes, and Twitch Hill in the John Smith's Fillies' Handicap.
The last-named finished a good third to Nordic Light over this course and distance three weeks ago. With that race under her belt, she should take plenty of beating tomorrow.
Dan Tucket, a promising third to the useful-looking Cristal Clear at Ripon last month, may not need to improve much on that display to win the John Smith's Maiden Auction Stakes.
