Paul Hanagan may have stolen a march on Ryan Moore in the opening days of the Flat season, but the reigning champion is expected to dazzle at Folkestone tomorrow.

While Malton-based Hanagan rode a remarkable seven winners in the first three days of the term, Moore who missed Doncaster’s curtain-raising two-day meeting because of commitments in Dubai, opened his account for the 2010 domestic season aboard Charlie Smirke on Monday at Lingfield, where Hanagan rode a 20-1 winner.

Tomorrow, with Hanagan taking a day off, Moore, long-odds-on to retain his title this year, is fancied to complete a double on Pocket’s Pick and Caramelita.

The latter, fit from the all-weather, has been placed in all four of her starts since the turn of the year and, while no star, she has shown enough to win a modest contest. John Jenkins has found just that, or so it seems, in the ladbrokes.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes and with Moore to do the steering, Caramelita has good prospects of breaking her duck.

Pocket’s Pick, trained by the jockey’s shrewd father, Gary, has had a break since running on the all-weather up until the end of last year.

The four-year-old’s fitness has to be taken on trust after a three-month break, but a bold show is anticipated. Straboe, a dual winner at Wolverhampton, looks the main danger.

Trainer Ron Hodges also has good prospects of a double strike with Make Amends and Barodine.

The last-named, consistent as any on the all-weather, was a half-length second to Provost at Wolverhampton. He should go well in the ladbrokes.com Handicap over an extended nine furlongs.

Make Amends runs in the ladbrokescasino.com Handicap.

Another who has been in good form on the sand, the five-year-old is a previous winner on this course and is napped to pop up again under George Baker, who also rides Barodine.

The best of tomorrow’s jumps action comes from Wincanton, where the Higos Insurance Somerset National takes pride of place.

Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and jockey Paddy Brennan, heroes of the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Imperial Commander, can lift this long-distance contest with Petite Margot.

An 11-times winner, she gained her latest success at Ffos Las where she looked in good form when getting the better of Buck Mulligan.

Irish trainer Gordon Elliott produced Lady Roberta to win at Gowran Park recently. It would be no surprise to see her follow up in the Axminster Carpets Handicap Hurdle.

Jason Maguire, who has a good record for the astute Elliott, has the mount.
