Racing legend’s prize trip north

The legendary former jockey was presenting the trophies for the major race at the seaside racecourse, the £50,000 Zetland Gold Cup.

And Kevin Darley could well receive the prize, courtesy of Ofaraby, who has strong claims in this ten furlong contest sponsored by Totesport.

Trained by Michael Jarvis, Ofaraby should be spot-on after two outings this season, the latest of which saw him finish a close-up fourth to Divine Gift at Chester. The easier ground this afternoon will suit him even better and Ofaraby is napped to triumph.

Crow Wood, trained by John Quinn, and Andrew Balding's Chantaco are the pick of the rest.

Hambleton trainer Bryan Smart has selected the Harry Rudland Memorial Novice Auction Stakes as a tempting target for Fathom Five, a recent winner at Musselburgh.

Smart won the corresponding Musselburgh race last year with Titus Alone, who then won this race at Redcar en route to landing the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot at York.

Smart has a high opinion of Fathom Five and although he faces tough opposition from the likes of Tim Easterby's course and distance winner Major Third, as well as Richard Fahey's promising Steelcut, a follow-up success looks on the cards.

Shamrock Bay was no match for the in-form Sphinx at Nottingham recently, but Connor Dore's gelding came out best of the rest in that clash and is fancied to go one better in the totepool A Better Way To Bet' Handicap.
