Paul Hanagan, who has leapt into an early lead in the jockeys’ championship in the opening week of the Flat turf season, can maintain his flying start at Scotland’s first fixture of the campaign tomorrow.

The Malton jockey journeys to Musselburgh and, in tandem with his equally in-form boss, Richard Fahey, the deadly partnership have good prospects of rattling up a treble.

Haigh Hall promises to trigger the three-timer by making a winning comeback in the £10,000 toteswinger Handicap over five furlongs.

Previously trained by Tim Easterby, she made a winning debut as a juvenile at Thirsk in 2008 and was talked about in glowing terms as a possible Queen Mary candidate.

She had only one other outing that season, finishing fifth from a poor draw in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley, before being sidelined with injury. Alas, she also failed to see a racecourse last term, since when she has been transferred to Fahey.

She may lack a little experience tomorrow, but, off a mark of 80 for her handicap debut, she makes plenty of appeal, especially as she is nicely drawn in the middle of the field. She is awarded the nap vote.

Jack O’Lantern had just one outing last season as a two-year-old, finishing third in a back-end Doncaster maiden for John Gosden.

He has since joined Fahey, who saddles him in the totequadpot Maiden Stakes. He should run well.

She’s In The Money is yet another Fahey/Hanagan entry with a sound chance. She improved out of all recognition last season, winning twice and finished a narrowly-beaten second on this course on her final start. She promises to make a bold bid in the totesport.com Easter Handicap.

While the Fahey/Hanagan team are well represented in the featured £20,000 totesuper7 Musselburgh Gold Cup with recent all-weather winner Prince Picasso, the vote goes to Puy d’Arnac, trained by Alan Swinbank and ridden by Robert Winston.

Twice a winner last summer, including once on this course, Puy d’Arnac goes particularly well with ease in the ground. With conditions in his favour, he is expected to run a big race.

Swinbank and Winston also have a good chance in the toteplacepot Selling Stakes with Wind Star, twice a winner last season, when his rating rose to a career-high mark of 90. He should benefit from this drop in class.

Norton trainer Linda Stubbs must have been deeply frustrated last season not to get a win out of Bronze Beau, who racked up a whole sequence of near misses.

There is no doubt he has ability and, perhaps, the best time to catch him might be first time out. Watch out for him under Tony Hamilton in the totepool on All UK Racing Handicap over five furlongs.
