Frankie Dettori may not have had much to celebrate at York last week, but the popular jockey can set the record straight at Goodwood tomorrow by completing a double in the two featured Listed races on the seven-race card.
Dettori teams up with Wedding March and Rewilding, both owned by Godolphin and trained by their two trainers, Saeed bin Suroor and Mahmood Al Zarooni, who has been freshly installed at Newmarket this season.
Wedding March ran only twice last season, both times in France, and won on her debut at Longchamp before finishing a creditable fourth, beaten little more than two lengths in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac, also at Longchamp.
The Blue Square Height Of Fashion Stakes looks a good starting point for Wedding March to start her campaign on a winning note.
Dettori, who disappointingly drew a blank at York’s three-day Dante Festival, rides Rewilding in the bluesquare.com Cocked Hat Stakes, a race in which Al Zarooni also saddles Eavesdropper, winner of his only start in maiden company.
Rewilding looks to have much stronger form. He finished second in Group 2 company at Longchamp last month. On the strength of that form, this son of Tiger Hill should make a bold bid.
Penang Princess makes plenty of appeal in the Sussex Stayers’ Handicap.
The four-year-old, trained by Ralph Beckett, was twice a winner last season. She reappeared at Salisbury at the beginning of the month and finished a good third, looking as though she may just needed the outing.
Penang Princess should strip fitter this time and, stepping up a couple of furlongs to two miles, a trip which suits, she is expected to come out on top. She is awarded the nap vote.
Also worth noting at Goodwood are the unraced Memory (2.00), a son of Danehill Dancer and trained by juvenile king Richard Hannon, and Tiger Trail (5.30), who was narrowly denied by Sherjawy at Brighton three weeks ago.
It can pay to follow Ryan Moore at Lingfield. The champion jockey has treble prospects aboard Mediterranean Sea (1.50), Loyalty (2.25) and Mishrif (5.20).
Mediterrean Sea won well at Southwell last time out, while Loyalty, despite being sent off at 4-5 favourite on her debut at Yarmouth, ran very green and never became seriously competitive. Sir Michael Stoute has fitted her with a visor tomorrow to aid her sharpness and concentration.
Mishrif was beaten less than a length at Yarmouth last week. It would be no surprise to see him go one better in the closing contest.
