Johannes, who came out on top at York last week, turns out again tomorrow on Knavesmire and is fancied to follow up in the featured speed test on the seven-race card.

The £40,000 sportingbet.com Sprint Handicap is the target for the seven-year-old gelding, who is trained by Richard Fahey, York’s leading trainer for the past four years, who is throwing plenty of ammunition at tomorrow’s programme.

Johannes had shown his best form over six furlongs prior to his latest Knavesmire success, which came over the same minimum distance he faces tomorrow.

The handicapper has raised him 6lb for that decisive success, but Fahey has countered by giving the mount tomorrow to his smart 7lb claimer Lee Topliss, whose riding allowance could prove crucial in what promises to be a closely-fought affair.

Fahey looks set for a profitable afternoon on his local course.

The Malton trainer also has good prospects with Trip The Light (2.05), who is dropped into claiming company, Nicola’s Dream (4.15), a newcomer who boasts a useful pedigree, and Mr Freddy (5.25), who ran out a convincing winner at Pontefract last time out.

In the other feature event, the £40,000 Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup looks a good opportunity for Aajel to return to winning ways.

Marcus Tregoning’s charge went down by only half a length to Illustrious Blue in the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot on his reappearance. He is narrowly preferred to Frankie Dettori’s mount Age Of Reason and last year’s winner Caracciolo.

Also worth noting are the useful City Style (2.35) and recent winner Dherghaam (4.50).

At tomorrow’s Haydock showpiece meeting, the Group 2 betfred.com Temple Stakes may present a winning chance for one of York’s favourite horses, Borderlescott.

Winner of the last two runnings of the Nunthorpe Stakes and trained locally by Robin Bastiman, Borderlescott finished a cracking second to the race-fit Equiano on his reappearance in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

He is fancied to turn the tables on his conqueror this time around.

Julie Camacho’s Beat The Rush (2.00), a good winner at Pontefract last time out, is taken to follow up in the opening handicap, while his rider Paul Hanagan also has good prospects on Our Joe Mac (2.30) in the £75,000 Betfair Silver Bowl. The three-year-old was narrowly denied on his comeback run at Chester recently.

The nap vote is awarded to Redden (5.15).

The William Haggas-trained gelding showed enough promise in three outings last season to strongly suggest he can now make his mark in handicaps off a reasonable mark.
