FRANKIE DETTORI will be the star attraction at York Racecourse tomorrow.
The charismatic Italian jockey is set for five rides as Knavesmire host their seven-race Spring Meeting – the highlight of which is the Listed Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup.
More than £130,000 of prize money is on offer, with the other big race being the sportingbet.com sprint over five furlongs.
William Derby, York chief executive and clerk of the course, said: “We are really looking forward to the first Saturday of the season. We are well up on pre-bookings and there will be a real family atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, the York groundstaff have watered the track ahead of the meeting with scorching temperatures expected at the weekend. The going is currently good to firm.
In a typical watering of the whole course, about 143,000 gallons of water are used.
