Look Busy, the shining star of Alan Berry’s Lancashire yard, makes the journey across the Pennines tomorrow seeking her third course win at Beverley.
The £17,000 Brantingham Conditions Stakes, run over five furlongs and the richest race on the card, is the target for this diminutive ten-times winner, whose career earnings stand at more than £27,000 – not bad going for a filly who cost a mere 7,500 euros as a yearling.
Look Busy, who won the Beverley Bullet over this course and distance in 2008, has had two outings so far this season, a creditable fourth at Chester and a sixth-placed effort in last Saturday’s Temple Stakes at Haydock, which she had won 12 months earlier. To be beaten little more than six lengths by top-ranking speedster Kinsgate Native was a useful performance.
Look Busy meets nothing of the calibre of Kingsgate Native in tomorrow’s field and, while she hardly faces a cakewalk, she is a classy performer on her day and she can prove that class tomorrow. The £15,000 Brian Yeardley Continental Two Year Old Trophy also takes pride of place on the Beverley card and Chiswick Bey should go well for Richard Fahey in this five-runner affair, to be covered by Channel 4.
Chiswick Bey won on his debut in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster’s opening meeting in March. That race has thrown up several winners and this smart colt may be good enough to prevail over his rivals, all of whom have winning form.
General Tufto (2.40) and Shadowtime (4.50) both have winning course form and are worthy of respect in their chosen races, as indeed is Cheyenne Red (5.25), who shaped with a degree of promise on his reappearance at Hamilton to finish on the heels of the placed horses.
He is napped to promote himself to the number one slot this time around under Paddy Donaghy, riding for in-form Darlington trainer Michael Dods.
At Pontefract this evening, Clarke Lane is fancied to come out on top in the featured Drury PSM Youngsters Conditions Stakes, which has attracted a small, but select, field.
Trained by Michael Jarvis, Clarke Lane made a winning debut at Haydock when defeating the well-regarded favourite Ahtoug by a short head. There is more to come from him.
The step back from a mile and a quarter to a mile may work the oracle for Henry Candy’s North Cape (6.30) in the opening race, while Lady Luachmhar (7.00) in the mile and a a half handicap.
Richard Fahey’s filly looked an unlucky loser when failing to secure a clear passage on her reappearance at Haydock. Any rain that falls will be to her benefit.
Taste The Victory (8.00) and Kielder (9.00), who ran so well despite looking very inexperienced on his debut at Ripon, are two others to note.
