Frankie Dettori, who travelled to Beverley in midweek to complete a double for Mark Johnston, teams up again with the North Yorkshire trainer tomorrow at his local Newmarket course and the pair again boast winning claims.

Monterosso will be ridden by Dettori in the £18,000 Johns Practice Handicap and the three-year-old has every chance of defying top weight.

A progressive sort, Monterosso has won twice at Lingfield and also at Ripon this season. His latest outing saw him chase home Green Moon at Newbury in a very competitive handicap.

The wide open spaces of Newmarket should suit him well and Monterosso is fancied to regain the winning thread, perhaps at the main expense of Caldercruix, trained near Tadcaster by Tom Tate and winner of both his races at Redcar this term.

Mujrayaat will surely be hard to beat in the Stablecare Maiden Stakes.

The Michael Jarvis-trained juvenile was sent off an odds-on favourite for his debut at Leicester, but went down narrowly to Nasharda. Compensation awaits him tomorrow.

John Gosden has double prospects with Run For The Hills and Man Of Action, both mounts of his new stable jockey William Buick.

Man Of Action had just one outing last season as a juvenile and shaped with promise, finishing third on this course in October. He looks the type to develop well as a three-year-old and is worthy of respect in the Home Of Racing Maiden Stakes.

Run For The Hills has failed to trouble the judge in two outings this term but, in the hope that those outings were required to bring him to concert pitch, he gets my nap vote in the Long Melford Lady Jane Clothing & Saddlery Handicap.

Run For The Hills is a useful handicapper on his day and, if he can reproduce his best form tomorrow, he will run a big race.

Plume gets the nod in the Rotary Club of Newmarket Fillies’ Handicap.

Richard Hannon’s three-year-old finished third on her reappearance over seven furlongs at Newbury. Tomorrow, she reverts to the six furlongs, over which she won at Haydock last autumn. Lightly-raced, she remains a filly to keep on the right side. Richard Hughes has the mount.

Also worth noting at HQ are John Quinn’s What A Day (2.20), who may have needed his comeback run, and Lutine Bell (5.50), who shaped well for Sir Mark Prescott over six furlongs at Nottingham last time and who should relish this extra distance.

Over the jumps at Uttoxeter, Alan King’s useful hurdler Franchoek (2.45) looks worthy of support tackling fences, while recent course winner Red Not Blue (4.25) has every chance of following up for Simon Earle and Andrew Thornton.
