Drop The Hammer, a seventh winner in a month for David O’Meara since he received his training licence when scoring at Redcar on Sunday, can complete a quick-fire double at Catterick tomorrow.

The filly, narrowly beaten on this course prior to her latest win, is clearly at the top of her game and, despite a 6lb penalty, is fancied to confirm her superiority over Redcar runner-up Amir Pasha.

Drop The Hammer, who runs in the Racing Again on 3rd August Apprentice Handicap, is a thorough stayer, who can be ridden either from the front or behind. The promising Adam Beschizza takes the mount tomorrow and should have a good ride on the four-year-old, trained by O’Meara at Nawton, near Helmsley.

Azzurra Du Caprio is napped to capture the Beauty And The Beast Nursery over seven furlongs.

Trained at Middleham by Ben Haslam, the two-year-old finished a good second to the useful Majestic Myles at Redcar last time out. The winner of that race has since gone on to score at Pontefract, thereby franking the form.

The step up from six furlongs to seven should suit Azurra Du Caprio tomorrow and a second career win from four starts is on the cards.

The Sky Bet Supporting The Yorkshire Summer Racing Festival is the feature race on the card and Mey Blossom is taken to resume winning ways.

Richard Whitaker’s smart mare was denied a hat-trick at Doncaster recently when an awkward start and a slightly troublesome run conspired to keep her out of the money in the race won by Sands Crooner.

Provided she enjoys a cleaner passage tomorrow, Mey Blossom should be right on the premises at the business end of this five-furlong dash.

Jockey’s championship leader, Paul Hanagan, who secured his 100th winner of the season on Goldenveil at Ayr, has several mounts with fighting chances.

The Malton rider has particularly good prospects aboard the promising Talley Close (2.10), Alhoni (2.40), who is overdue a winning turn, and Efistorm (4.40), the highest-rated runner in the claimer.

Sandown’s evening meeting may also include winners with a North Yorkshire flavour.

A note should be made of Brian Ellison’s Dream Win (6.05), a fluent scorer at Wolverhampton last time out, and the Mark Johnston-trained Sailorman (7.40), who was narrowly beaten at Epsom last week, and who will be teamed up with Frankie Dettori.

Norton trainer John Quinn could figure on the scoresheet, courtesy of the promising Blazing Desert (8.50), who will be partnered by smart apprentice Ian Brennan in the concluding contest.
