FRANKIE Dettori is set to go for York glory at a packed Music Showcase Saturday.

The charismatic Italian, lying fourth behind Malton’s Paul Hanagan in the flat jockeys’ championship, could ride Allyban for his employers Godolphin in the feature £100,000 Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes.

And he could also partner either Lowdown or Thebes, both trained by Middleham handler Mark Johnston, in the £50,000 Sky Bet Dash over six furlongs.

Rivals in the Sky Bet York Stakes could include Tadcaster trainer Tom Tate’s Kings Gambit, who narrowly lost out to Wigmore Hall in the John Smith’s Cup earlier this month, and Monitor Closely, who won last year’s Great Voltigeur Stakes on Knavesmire.

In the Dash, Stillington handler Ruth Carr’s temperamental, but talented, gelding Excusez Moi and former York winner Midnight Martini are among 39 early entrants.

Dettori’s appearance at Knavesmire would be a further boost to a meeting which is sure to be well attended.

Racecourse chiefs have advised spectators who want County Stand badges that they will have to book in advance – as there will be no admittance to that enclosure on the day.

But, while the County Stand is heading for a sell-out thanks to record levels of advance sales, there is still availability in both Grandstand and Paddock and Course Enclosure for Saturday’s meeting.

All three enclosures have availability for tomorrow’s evening meeting and junior badges will be available as normal on both days, subject to proof of age.

James Brennan, York Racecourse’s head of marketing, said: “We are delighted the combination of top quality racing, investment in facilities and the added entertainment of the X Factor stars seems to be a winning formula.
