Age Of Aquarius, who ran his heart out last month only to be narrowly denied in the Ascot Gold Cup, can gain deserved compensation in tomorrow’s Goodwood Cup.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and the mount of Johnny Murtagh, who is returning from a suspension, Age Of Aquarius will be a popular choice in this Artemis-sponsored stamina test run over two miles.

His latest effort produced a sterling performance, with Age Of Aquarius going down by only a neck to Rite Of Passage after a nail-biting duel in the closing stages.

Tomorrow’s shorter trip – Ascot’s Gold Cup is run over half-a-mile further – should suit Age Of Aquarius, who is fancied to go one better and claim this prestigious Group 2 showpiece.

Mark Johnston, who targets the Glorious Goodwood Festival every year, saddles three runners in the opening TurfTV Summer Vase, which he won last year with Roman Republic, and the pick of them may well be Solicitor, the mount of Joe Fanning.

The lightly raced three-year-old ran out a deeply impressive seven-length winner from the in-form Marjury Daw at Beverley recently and even a 6lb penalty in this stronger race may not be enough to prevent a bold bid.

Tomorrow’s major speed test comes in the form of the Audi King George Stakes over five furlongs and while it would be great to see Borderlescott win this Group 2 race for Wetherby trainer Robin Bastiman, his stable star is drawn a little too wide on the course for my liking, which is for Triple Aspect from the William Haggas yard in Newmarket.

Winner of two of his three starts this season, most recently at Sandown, Triple Aspect is expected to give Liam Jones a fine ride in this hugely competitive sprint.

Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore may hold the key to the Moat Hennessy Fillies’ Stakes with Ship’s Biscuit.

With only three runs under her belt, Ship’s Biscuit created a very good impression on the latest of them, which was a maiden race success on this course, which was achieved by the best part of five lengths.

She has much stronger opposition to cope with tomorrow, plus another two furlongs to travel, but there is surely no doubting the potential of Ship’s Biscuit, who is fancied to be equal to this Group 3 task.

Tim Easterby saddles two runners in the RUK Leading Jockey Award Handicap and Medici Time, better drawn than stable-mate Lost In Paris, is marginally preferred.

Graham Gibbons’ mount has run well in defeat lately at Newmarket and Newcastle and is capable of putting in a bold bid here.

Up at Musselburgh’s evening meeting, Daytime Dreamer makes heaps of appeal in the opening Wilkinson And Associates Amateur Riders’ Handicap.

Trained by Martin Todhunter, the six-year-old won an apprentices’ race at Catterick last week and, as a result, escapes a penalty tomorrow. With Simon Walker on board, the six-year-old is napped to complete a quick double.

The speedy Silvanus (7.25), a previous course and distance winner, and Honest Broker (8.30), who ran a fine race in defeat at Beverley last week, are two others to note in Scotland.
