Marine Commando, who strutted his stuff in style at Royal Ascot last month, bids to follow up at Goodwood tomorrow for Malton trainer Richard Fahey.

The unbeaten juvenile, who had made a winning debut at Carlisle, lines up for the Richmond Stakes in the hands of Paul Hanagan.

Marine Commando, named after owner Mike Wynn’s son who is serving in Afghanistan, won the Windsor Castle Stakes at the Royal meeting, coming home fast and late over five furlongs to clinch this Listed prize in the dying strides.

Tomorrow’s step up to six furlongs should suit Marine Commando, who puts his reputation on the line in this Group 2 contest.

Among his rivals is the similarly unbeaten dual winner Libranno, trained by Richard Hannon.

Perfect Blossom aims to extend her winning sequence for Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan in the Turf Club Handicap.

The speedy three-year-old has won her last four races and is improving with every start. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to halt her progress with Amy Ryan, the trainer’s apprentice-daughter, reducing her weight by 5lb.

Ruth Carr is another North Yorkshire trainer with good prospects of figuring on the Sussex scoresheet.

The Stillington handler is represented by Charlie Cool in the £150,000 totesport Mile and this consistent gelding looks sure to run well in what is a hugely competitive event.

The classy Duncan (2.10) gets the vote in the opening Group 3 race as he bids to make it third time lucky after twice finishing second this term, while few would begrudge Jacqueline Quest (5.15) a taste of Group 3 glory after being disqualified after passing the post in front in the 1,000 Guineas, only to be disqualified. Henry Cecil’s filly has since run very well in defeat at Royal Ascot.

At Thirsk, Tabaret is napped to lift the featured Peter Bell Memorial Handicap over six furlongs.

Richard Whitaker’s gelding has not won for some time, but he has run some fine races in defeat lately, not least on his latest Newmarket outing when he was beaten less than a length into fifth place by Five Star Junior.

David Barron, who trains at Maunby, not far from the racecourse, saddles Elijah Pepper in the Byland Abbey Handicap and the five-year-old has every chance of going one better following his runner-up effort at Chester last time.

The consistent maiden Sheiling (4.10) and Albero Di Giuda (5.20), are two others to note.
