A 400-mile round trip awaits Malton jockey Paul Hanagan tomorrow as he bids to extend his lead in the jockeys’ championship.

Hanagan journeys to Musselburgh, where he has such a fine record, for rides in all six races on the evening programme, and there is every chance he could win at least four of them.

Fujin Dancer kicks off Hanagan’s assault in the Scottish Racing Selling Stakes and the Kevin Ryan-trained gelding has strong claims on the best of his form, which notably included a fourth-placed effort in Redcar’s Zetland Gold Cup earlier this season.

Diggeratt, trained by Richard Fahey, can be a second winner for Hanagan in the Racing UK Handicap.

The four-year-old made a belated seasonal debut at Thirsk last weekend and looked an unlucky loser, finishing a close-up third after meeting trouble in running under a 7lb claiming apprentice in the home straight.

Provided this second outing does not come too soon, Diggeratt should make a bold bid. Glenluji, on whom Hanagan scored at Ayr last time, looks the main danger.

Nap selection Arctic Feeling can also score for Fahey and Hanagan in the TurfTV Conditions Stakes over five furlongs.

A decent sort, who was just touched off at Beverley last month, Arctic Feeling is expected to go one better this time at the main expense of recent Carlisle winner Earl Wild.

Arriva La Diva can also oblige for Hanagan in the Scottish Racing Your Better Bet Handicap over the minimum trip.

Trained at Norton by John Quinn, the four-year-old failed only by inches to come out on top here last week in a triple photo-finish in the race won by Rio’s Girl. Compensation awaits Arriva La Diva tomorrow.

While Hanagan’s other three rides – Doctor Parkes and Golden Future – also have chances, others make more more appeal in their respective races.

Lost In Paris (7.35), a previous course-and-distance winner for Tim Easterby, can win Doctor Parkes’ race, while Golden Future may struggle to keep tabs on Park’s Prodigy (8.40), another course-and-distance winner, who hails from Geoff Harker’s in-form Thirsk yard.

At Haydock’s evening meeting, Peter Niven, trainer of Golden Future, may enjoy better luck with Beat The Shower in the J20 White Blend Handicap.

Beat The Shower was a decisive winner at Musselburgh last time out and, although 7lb higher this time, he is fancied to back up with another victory.

Also worth noting at Haydock are Amazing Blue Sky (5.50), who ran well here last weekend and who will relish the easy ground, and Arctic Mirage (6.55), a Chepstow winner two weeks ago.
