Dunboyne Express can deny Paul Hanagan, aboard Native Khan, a valuable Group 1 success at Doncaster tomorrow when the £200,000 Racing Post Trophy takes pride of place.

Trained in Ireland by Kevin Prendergast, Dunboyne Express who like Native Khan is unbeaten in two starts, has the look of a horse with a bright future.

Winner of a strongly run maiden at Leopardstown on his debut, Dunboyne Express went on to lift the important Anglesey Stakes in fine style.

Although he was then sidelined with a heel infection, Prendergast, who holds this colt in high regard, reports him to be back in A1 form as he bids for a hat-trick in a race, in which Irish trainers are strongly represented.

Casamento, winner of the Group 2 Beresford Stakes, is trained by Mick Halford, while Seville, a Tipperary winner, is trained by Aidan O’Brien, who sent out St Nicholas Abbey to win this prestigious race 12 months ago.

Ed Dunlop is the trainer of Native Khan, whose two-from-two includes the Solario Stakes at Sandown in August. He looks a useful horse in the making and Hanagan was pleased with him when he rode him in a gallop at Newmarket in midweek.

This final Group 1 race of the campaign looks a tight contest, but Dunboyne Express will do for me.

The switch back to five furlongs in the Betfair Handicap should suit Confessional. A winner over the minimum trip at Haydock two starts ago, Tim Easterby’s gelding was far from disgraced when ninth, beaten little more than four lengths by Poet’s Place, over six furlongs last time.

Galtymore Lad should go well for Kieren Fallon in TheBettingSite.com Stakes.

At York and Doncaster, Mick Channon’s colt chased home Wootton Bassett in valuable sales races, being denied huge first prizes in the process. He won by 12 lengths against a solitary rival at Salisbury most recently and should go well in this Listed event.

The useful Flambeau (4.05) and Ollie Pears’ Stamp Duty (5.15), winner of his only race to date at Newcastle, are two others to note.

At Newbury, Elzaam makes appeal in the featured Horris Hill Stakes.

Trained at Newmarket by Michael Jarvis, this talented juvenile won a hot maiden race at York in May and finished an excellent second to Strong Suit in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. His only subsequent run was in the July Stakes at Newmarket, where he proved most disappointing but was later found to be suffering from an infection. He is fancied to bounce back, equipped with headgear for the first time.

The £57,000 John Smith’s Stakes shares top billing at the Berkshire course and Jarvis also promises to have a strong say in this likewise Group 3 contest with Hot Prospect.

Also worth noting at Newbury are Pretty Bonnie (3.10) and the potentially exciting Flood Plain (3.40).
