There could be no better compliment paid to former Stillington trainer David Chapman, a legend of North Yorkshire racing, than to see winners from his Mowbray House continuing in abundance, following his sudden death earlier this week.

Ruth Carr, Chapman’s granddaughter, who took over the yard in 2008 with the best assistant-trainer in the business at her shoulder, has good prospects of completing what would be a hugely popular treble at Thirsk this evening.

Excusez Moi bids to draw first blood in the TurfTV.co.uk Selling Stakes with PJ McDonald on board.

Winner of the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon three years back, the gelding has his share of temperament and has been regressive lately. But he remains among the three highest-rated horses in this field and, if he consents to put his best foot forward, he could kick off a memorable night for Carr.

In the Dick Peacock Sprint Handicap, she saddles Chosen One, whose double-figure draw should help him in his quest to return to winning ways.

There was plenty of encouragement to be drawn from his latest performance when he finished third to Mon Brav at Musselburgh. He should make a bold bid under Jimmy Sullivan.

The mount on Carr’s Beckermet in the Thirsk Races Again Next Saturday Handicap falls to Shane B Kelly, who had the mount on the gelding when he went down by only a nose to Arch Walker at Newcastle.

That race was over six furlongs and if Beckermet can repeat his effort over an extra furlong here, he should be in the firing line.

Norton trainer Ollie Pears will be praying that the forecast rain arrives in time for The Caped Crusader, who is set to make his seasonal reappearance in the GT Group Handicap.

A dual winner last season, the four-year-old has the scope to do even better this term, provided he gets the easy ground he loves. He is an interesting runner.

Watch out, too, for Rosbay, from Tim Easterby’s in-form yard, in the Calverts Carpets Handicap, and the promising Carousel in the Soldiers Charity Maiden Stakes.

Flat racing fans are in for a drought tomorrow with jump action all the way.

Best advice at Uttoxeter is to follow the fortunes of Malton-born jockey Andrew Tinkler, who has good prospects of completing a treble.

Tinkler rides Dubai Crest (2.30), Duke Of Ormond (4.30) and nap selection Full Of Spirit (5.00).
