Miss Work Of Art, winner of both her races this season, can book her ticket for next month’s Royal Ascot meeting by completing a hat-trick on Knavesmire tomorrow.
The flying filly, trained by Richard Fahey, who looks set for another lucrative afternoon at York after sending out a winner and three seconds on yesterday’s opening day, goes for Listed race honours in the opening Langleys Solicitors Shirocco Stakes with Paul Hanagan in the saddle.
A winner at Lingfield on her debut, Miss Work Of Art followed up at Ascot at the main expense of the highly-regarded Music City. She is being considered for either the Queen Mary Stakes or the Albany at the Royal meeting.
Malton trainer Fahey has good prospects of adding to his tally. Irish Heartbeat is napped to win the sportingbet.com Handicap over six furlongs.
Having failed to last home over a mile in the Lincoln, Irish Heartbeat will relish this drop back in distance, over which he won a useful handicap at Doncaster last September before running well in the Ayr Silver Cup. Hoof It is probably the biggest danger to Hanagan’s mount.
Pandoro de Lago can also deliver for Fahey in the Constant Security Handicap. George Chaloner’s apprentice allowance completely erases the 6lb penalty the Malton filly picked up for a wide-margin win in a modest maiden affair at Newcastle last week. She should go well from a stable in flying form.
Whatever the fate of Hoof It, Mick Easterby has a further chance of collecting with Thirteen Shivers in the Ralph Raper Memorial Handicap.
The three-year-old shaped well to finish a close up third at Pontefract two weeks ago. Perhaps more will be required tomorrow, but there is surely improvement to come from Thirteen Shivers, who has a fighting chance of figuring in the shake-up in the hands of the vastly underated David Nolan.
Tim Easterby can also make his presence felt with Deauville Flyer in the sportingbet.com Jorvik Handicap over a mile-and-a-half.
A winner over this course and distance last season, Deauville Flyer will have benefited from his initial outing at Ripon last month. He is reunited with Kieren Fallon, who has won on him in the past.
The Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup offers Askar Tau the chance to build on the good impression he has already made this season.
Marcus Tregoning’s stayer followed up a sound comeback placed effort to win the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot at the end of last month. He is no stranger to York competition, having won on this course in the past.
The useful Theysekens’ Theory makes her seasonal reappearance in the sportingbet.com Fillies’ Stakes and, if Brian Meehan’s runner is fit and ready, she should take plenty of beating.
