Norton jockey Tom Eaves, who memorably rode his first winner for the Queen at Newcastle on Thursday evening, heads to Nottingham tomorrow with good prospects of figuring on the scoresheet on Johnny Hancocks – provided the gelding can shake off his shadow.

At Beverley earlier this month, Johnny Hancocks attempted to make all the running over five furlongs, but was worn down inside the final furlong and denied in the dying strides by Meandmyshadow, who clinched first prize by a neck.

The two North Yorkshire horses – Johnny Hancocks is trained by Linda Stubbs at Norton and Meandmyshadow by Yedingham-based Alan Brown – clash again in tomorrow’s Peppa Pig Returns Twinlakes – 2nd August Handicap.

Johnny Hancocks is marginally better off at the weights this time and, on this speedier track, is fancied to gain his revenge under Eaves, whose Royal success was achieved on the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Caraboss.

Freddie Tylicki, who has been in good form lately, is not without a chance of adding to his growing tally of winners aboard Shadow Catcher in the Doh, The Simpsons Handicap.

Trained by Darlington-based Michael Dods, the three-year-old scored at Catterick on his reappearance and was not disgraced when fifth in a warm handicap, won by Ollie Pears’ Sound Amigo, at Haydock last week. He has good each-way prospects.

Paoletta promises to have plenty of supporters in the Timmy – Wheelgate Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

The Godolphin three-year-old, unraced last year, showed definite signs of ability on her Windsor debut a couple of weeks ago when finishing a close-up second to Nahrain. There should be improvement to come from Paoletta, who is selected to go one better.

Rocket Rob is napped to win the Fireman Sam Visits Twinlakes Handicap over five furlongs.

The mount of Stevie Donohoe, the five-year-old shaped really well at Haydock on his latest start, just over a week ago, staying on strongly to finish fourth, beaten only a length, by Dickie Le Davoir.

He may not need to improve much on that form to gain the major honours this time on behalf of Newmarket trainer Willie Musson.

At Uttoxeter, trainer Paul Webber and jockey Dominic Elsworth look the combination to follow.

The duo have strong claims of completing a treble with Icy Colt (2.40), narrowly beaten at Wetherby last month by Bob Will after looking sure to prevail for much of the home straight, Gtaab (4.10), who finished second at Fontwell last time, and Rajnagan (5.10), a winner on this course earlier in the month.

Also worth watching out for is Yorkshire Knight (4.10). Peter Bowen’s gelding failed by a head at Ffos Las last month and deserves to go one better.
