Ruth Carr has her North Yorkshire team in cracking form and can complete a Hamilton double tomorrow with recent winners Tournedos and Klynch.

Tournedos ended a long losing sequence at Carlisle on Monday and won in such good style that it would be no surprise to see him now enter a purple patch, which is often the case with Carr’s horses. Once they start winning, they keep on winning.

The nine-year-old runs under a 6lb penalty in the Lanarkshire Chamber Of Commerce Handicap and, with Shane B Kelly booked to ride, this capable apprentice’s 7lb claim will effectively erase his partner’s extra weight.

Klynch will also have Kelly’s assistance in his bid to defy a double-penalty – amounting to 12lb – in the Garry Owen Handicap.

The gelding has struck form with a vengeance lately, winning his last three races, most recently at Newcastle last Friday.

A horse who likes room to manoeuvre and who hates being crowded, Klynch is ideally berthed in stall one on the outside of the field. In his current form, he will take plenty of beating.

The flow of winners from the Carr stable is particularly pleasing given that Ruth recently lost her grandfather and mentor, former trainer David Chapman, who died suddenly last month.

Chapman was a dab hand with sprinters and much of what he knew he passed on to Ruth, who is now doing a splendid job in keeping the Mowbray House winning tradition intact.

The opening Racing UK On Sky Channel 432 Maiden Auction Stakes promises to be the most interesting race on the Hamilton card.

Fortrose Academy, trained by Andrew Balding, Tom Dascombe’s Winter Hill and Tim Easterby’s Nearly A Gift, all of whom showed promise on their debuts, cross swords with interesting newcomers from the Kevin Ryan and Richard Fahey stables, namely Revitalise and Darling Lexi.

Marginal preference is for Nearly A Gift who, despite looking green, shaped with real promise to finish fifth to the smart Gabrial at Chester last month. If she can build on that performance over this extra furlong, she should run a good race for David Allan.

Also worth noting are the tough Granny McPhee (4.10) and Countrywide Flame (4.40), a course and distance winner two starts back.

At Southwell, Brian Ellison can continue his excellent season by completing a double with Koo And The Gang and Three White Socks.

A decisive winner on this course four weeks ago, Three White Socks is awarded the nap vote in the At The Races Sky 415 Handicap. A 7lb rise hardly looks prohibitive and the four-year-old is selected to follow up.

Koo And The Gang has also shown a liking for this Fibresand circuit. He has won his last two races at Southwell and it would come as no surprise to see the four-year-old complete a hat-trick in the Play Roulette At ladbrokes.com Handicap.

Kheley (5.00), who is proven on this course, and Onyx Of Arabia (5.30) are two others to note.

• Tomorrow evening’s Wetherby meeting will be previewed in The Press tomorrow.
