North Yorkshire apprentice Dale Swift, who rode two winners last Saturday and who pulled off a 50-1 shock on Burning Thread in the Scottish Sprint Cup at Musselburgh, heads to Haydock tomorrow with good prospects of further adding to his tally.
Norton-based Swift, who is attached to the Brian Ellison stable, has chance of enjoying a further double aboard Amir Pasha and Taurus Twins.
Amir Pasha, trained at Middleham by Micky Hammond, goes for the Betdaq Apprentice Training Series Handicap over a mile and a half.
He was a winner over this course and distance last summer and shaped well over an inadequate ten furlongs on this course lately when fourth to Amazing Blue Sky in a ladies’ race.
That was Amir Pasha’s first run since the end of March and he should have benefited as a result. He carries the nap vote.
Taurus Twins goes for the Tom Jones Live On 18th June Handicap over five furlongs and is fancied to run a big race after two solid recent efforts. Having chased home Bronze Beau at Catterick, Taurus Twins has since finished a close up sixth, beaten little more than two lengths, at Sandown where the race did not go to suit her. She has every chance of stepping up on that performance tomorrow.
Kevin Ryan introduces an interesting newcomer in Wolf Spirit in the Watch Races Live At racinguk.com Maiden Stakes.
Wolf Spirit was a £70,000 breeze up sales purchase in late spring and it is no surprise that Ryan was attracted to him as he is a son of Amadeus Wolf, with whom Ryan won the 2006 Gimcrack Stakes and the 2007 Duke Of York Stakes on Knavesmire. Wolf Spirit is certainly bred to gallop.
Paul Hanagan has a couple of live chances on a course which is close to his Warrington birthplace.
Malton’s champion jockey rides Secret Love in the rewards4 racing.com Handicap.
Although a maiden, she did well at Newbury on her reappearance, beaten little more than seven lengths by Izzi Top and Dancing Rain, who were separated by only a head. Dancing Rain has since gone on to win the Oaks, so Secret Love can make her presence felt in this class 3 handicap.
Lady Gar Gar is Hanagan’s mount in the Racing UK In Your Pub Handicap. A Beverley winner this season, the Geoff Oldroyd-trained filly has since run two creditable races in defeat. She is open to improvement over this longer trip and runs on behalf of owner Reg Bond, the Pocklington businessman, who on Saturday sponsors the £80,000 Bond Tyres Trophy, the principal race on Macmillan Charity Day at York.
At Newbury, the Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes, with £30,000 in prize money, is the feature race on the card.
John Gosden’s Imperial Pippin should go well under William Buick. She won her maiden on her debut on this course in April and has since finished a respectable third in Listed company at Goodwood.
The hat trick-seeking Dysios (2.30), the mount of Kieran Fallon, and the promising but lightly-raced Muzdahi (4.15) are two others to keep an eye on.
