Dorback, who caught the eye in no uncertain terms at Newbury on his reappearance, can fulfill that promise at Doncaster tomorrow.
Trained by Henry Candy, this talented sprinter was restricted by injury to just one race last year.
His comeback last month was a most encouraging one, however, and left the impression that he can more than pay his way this season.
Partnered by Jamie Spencer, who takes the mount again tomorrow, he was continually denied a clear run at Newbury and, in the end, finished sixth to Novellen Lad, beaten by five lengths.
It is no exaggeration to say that, with a smooth passage, it appeared that he might well have won or at least gone close to winning.
He gets the chance to set the record straight tomorrow in the Josh Walker Happy 18th Birthday Handicap over six furlongs.
It is a tight race on paper, but Dorback is a horse to keep on the right side of and he is napped to come up trumps.
Norton trainer John Quinn can get punters off to a winning start by landing the opening crownhotel-bawtry.com Apprentice Handicap with Bajan Parkes.
Sidelined for some time with injury and absent throughout the whole of last season, Bajan Parkes won in grand style at Redcar on his latest outing for Quinn, who has done a super job in getting him back on track.
A follow up looks on the cards with Declan Cannon in the saddle.
Philip Kirby, based at Castleton on the North York Moors, is a pretty shrewd trainer and he can capture the Yorkshire Racing Festival 16th-24th July Classified Stakes with Lady Chloe.
The three-year-old fulfilled previous promise when scoring at Redcar on her latest outing. She has the scope for further improvement on the Flat before her attentions are turned to hurdling.
The promising Mizbah (2.50) and High Jinx (4.30), who also looks to have a fair degree of potential, are two others to follow on Town Moor.
At Salisbury, Sutton Veny promises to run a huge race in the Picador Chevrolet Handicap over five furlongs.
Trainer Jeremy Gask, who is a particularly skilful handler of sprinters, introduced Sutton Veny at Haydock last month and the five-year-old ran a blinder to finish third, beaten only three-quarters of a length by the winner, the in-form Dickie Le Davoir.
Sure to have benefited from that outing, Sutton Veny should be hard to beat this time.
Spice Fair (2.00), who has been running well lately, also commands attention, while Newmarket trainer William Haggas has good prospects of a double with High Standing (3.40), who runs in the feature race, and Dubai Dancer (5.20), a recent winner.
Little has gone right for High Standing in his two outings this season, but he is too talented a horse to dismiss from calculations and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back in his Listed-race target.
