Mark Johnston, Kevin Ryan and Richard Fahey can hoist the North Yorkshire flag to full mast at Royal Ascot tomorrow by all saddling winners on the six-race card.

Middleham-based Johnston makes his usual strong raid on the Queen’s Vase, a race he has won no fewer than five times since 2001, most recently with Holberg two years ago.

He saddles three runners in tomorrow’s gruelling two-miler and the fast-improving Eternal Heart is fancied to have the edge over his stable-mates Namibian and Halifax.

A half-brother to former stable stalwart Yavana’s Pace, who was a Group 1 winner, Eternal Heart has improved out of all recognition and completed a hat-trick of successes in a valuable handicap at Musselburgh on his latest start.

This step up to two miles should be right up his street and, with Joe Fanning in the saddle, Eternal Heart promises to be a tough nut to crack.

Ryan runs Our Jonathan in the Buckingham Palace Handicap and Franny Norton’s mount is expected to make a bold bid.

A good third at York in a red-hot six-furlong handicap last month, Our Jonathan has since relished the step up to seven furlongs and won at Chester next time before finishing a very creditable second in a messy race at Sandown last Saturday.

Clearly in excellent heart, nap selection Our Jonathan can get back on top this time.

Ryan will also be strongly represented in the opening Albany Stakes by Inetrobil, an easy winner at Redcar on her debut.

She looks a filly of crystal clear potential, but she may find Lily’s Angel, trained by Fahey, too strong and streetwise for her in this Group 3 contest.

Winner of her first three races, which included the Lily Agnes Stakes at Chester, Lily’s Angel came unstuck in last month’s Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley, having to settle for a staying-on third after missing the break and being outpaced.

This step up to six furlongs is expected to suit her much better and, drawn in stall one, she can run a big race for Paul Hanagan.

Tomorrow’s showpiece is the £250,000 Coronation Stakes, in which Together, runner-up in both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas, promises to be hard to beat for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

World Domination may not have been seen at his best in last month’s Dante Stakes, where he showed his inexperience in a slowly-run race. Henry Cecil’s colt is held in high esteem and, stepping up to a mile and a half, he is certainly worth another chance in the King Edward VII Stakes.

At Redcar, several trainers have given the meeting a body swerve on account of its poor prize money. Five of the races have attracted single-figure fields.

Ollie Pears and Paul Midgley may be the trainers to follow – Pears with recent course winner Petsas Pleasure (3.20) and Noodles Blue Boy (4.00), and Midgley with Byron Bear (5.10) and Tancred Spirit (5.45).
