Jamie Spencer, a rare visitor to Catterick, can make his presence felt at tomorrow’s meeting by winning on nap selection Jeu de Roseau.
The Chris Grant-trained gelding has finished second in both his races this season, most recently at Beverley, where he swept clear inside the last two furlongs only to be caught in the dying strides by Spider’s Star.
Jeu de Roseau bids for compensation tomorrow in the Racing Again Next Wednesday Handicap over two miles. He can carry Spencer to victory in the longest race on the card.
Spencer can also win the Go Racing In Yorkshire Classified Stakes on Newmarket raider Al Burkaan.
Ed Dunlop’s three-year-old has shown ability in all his three starts and, in a race confined to horses with a maximum rating of 70, his 70-mark is bang on the button.
He should go well for the former champion jockey, who recently shone at Royal Ascot when winning the Ascot Gold Cup on Fame And Glory for Aidan O’Brien.
John Quinn runs Superplex in the yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Maiden Stakes and the juvenile is long overdue a winning turn.
In five races this season, Superplex has finished second three times, most recently at Ripon when chasing home Last Bid. He is worth another chance.
Bryan Smart and Tom Eaves can get punters off to a good start with Excellette in the opening ‘Mullionmileanhour’ Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
An encouraging fourth on her debut at Ripon, Excellette was sent off favourite at Haydock last time, only to find one too good in West Leake Harbour. She is plainly capable of winning in maiden company and opportunity is fancied to come knocking for her at the third time of asking.
Norton trainer Ollie Pears has his horses in good form and Last Sovereign is given the vote in the Pin Point Recruitment Handicap over seven furlongs.
A respectable second at Leicester last time out behind Frognal, Last Sovereign may not need to improve much on that performance to go one better here.
At Kempton’s evening meeting, Middleham trainer Mark Johnston can hit the target with Taqaat in the Irish Night At Kempton Handicap.
The three-year-old, a winner on his reappearance this season, finished second to Motivado on his latest handicap outing at Ripon, where he may not have seen out the ten furlongs. It is interesting that Johnston has brought him back to a mile tomorrow.
Final Liberation (6.50), who won at Lingfield a few days ago, bids to strike while the iron for Sir Mark Prescott, while also worth noting is Hawawi (7.20), who showed ability in his one and only start as a juvenile. David Lanigan’s colt looks the type to thrive as a three-year-old.
