William Buick heads to Beverley tomorrow, instead of taking in the first day of Glorious Goodwood, and is fancied to complete a treble.
Ironically, Buick teams up in the opening Holderness Pony Club Maiden Stakes with Croquembouche, trained by Sir Michael Stoute.
A creditable runner-up to Comical on his debut at Yarmouth, Croquembouche looks the type to have benefited from that outing. He should take plenty of beating tomorrow.
The top-notch jockey can also win on Lemon Drop Kid, trained by Ed Dunlop and chasing a hat-trick of wins in the Beverley Middle Distance Series Handicap. The three-year-old is in tremendous heart at present and also looks very progressive.
Buick has also been snapped up by Norton trainer Tim Etherington to ride Alis Aquilae in theoldgravelpitlodges.co.uk Handicap.
The five-year-old failed to fire at Haydock last time out, but a creditable, if somewhat luckless, fourth-placed effort on this course previously would give Alis Aquilae a sound chance here.
The Lady Jane Bethell Memorial Lady Amateur Riders’ Handicap has divided into two divisions. Serena Brotherton has good prospects in the first aboard Kyle Of Bute, a previous course and distance winner, while Harriet Bethell can win the second on course specialist Rowan Lodge, trained by Ollie Pears.
Pears also has good prospects earlier in the card with Toto Skyllachy in the Wilford Watts Memorial Handicap. Freddie Tylicki’s mount has won two of his three starts this term and won over this course and distance last time out.
At Goodwood, Strong Suit looks good for the bet365 Lennox Stakes.
Richard Hannon’s talented charge won the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and was narrowly denied at Chantilly last time out in the Prix Jean Prat.
Fiorente, runner-up to Nathaniel at Royal Ascot last month, will be a popular choice in the bet365 Gordon Stakes, especially after Nathaniel’s famous win in the King George at the weekend.
Malton’s Richard Fahey has several runners at the Sussex course and could be on the mark with Our Joe Mac (2.00) and well-regarded newcomer Warcrown (4.20), who is napped to make a winning debut.
The Malton trainer also has a sound chance with Miss Work Of Art in the beet365 Molecomb Stakes, but this triple winner may have to play second fiddle to Stonefield Flyer, trained by Keith Dalgleish and an impressive Doncaster winner recently.
• Today’s nap is at Ayr in the shape of Abernethy (5.30), who bids to follow up a course and distance success a win ago.
