AN all-American dream beckons for Red Duke in November when the Ryedale colt will bid for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Juvenile at Churchill Downs.
Norton trainer John Quinn reckons the championship race, on November 5, ticks all the right boxes for Red Duke and, even though he was defeated in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last Saturday, his performance to finish second was proof for Quinn that Churchill Downs should still be an exciting target.
“We’ve always thought the race in America was tailor-made for him. He needs a strong pace,” Quinn said.
Having broken his maiden at Redcar, Red Duke then won the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket before finishing an unlucky third at Glorious Goodwood.
Never before has Ryedale had a representative at the Breeders’ Cup.
