The evergreen Highland Warrior, a professional racehorse if ever there was, heads to Beverley tomorrow with bright prospects of extending his remarkable annual winning record.

Ever since he won his first race in 2002 when he was a three-year-old, Highland Warrior has never allowed one season to pass by without winning at least one race.

Still without a success in 2012, the enthusiastic veteran, now 13-years-old, can set the record straight in Beverley’s Jinyu – tyregiant.com Handicap (division two) for North Yorkshire trainer Paul Midgley, whose horses are in terrific form.

Highland Warrior, who has run in no fewer than 133 races, has won 15, and has finished either second or third on 28 occasions.

He has been knocking on the door this term. A couple of third-placed efforts at Musselburgh and Ripon were accompanied on his latest start on this course with a creditable fourth behind Mercers Row.

At his best in the mud, Highland Warrior will have conditions to his liking at rain-sodden Beverley. He is napped to show his junior rivals a clean pair of heels – and put his name on the scoresheet for the 11th consecutive year.

Eeny Mac and Cottam Donny finished first and second on this course recently and the pair go their separate ways on tomorrow’s card, each with good chances.

Eeny Mac goes for the Infinity – tyregiant.com Handicap on behalf of Norton trainer Neville Bycroft and is taken to follow up his latest triumph, while Cottam can gain an overdue success for Mel Brittain in the Marshal – tyregiant.com Handicap.

David O’Meara drops Dil Laney (2.30) into claiming company after three fairly respectable efforts in better company, while Kian’s Joy (5.30), a soft ground winner at Newcastle earlier in the campaign, can lift the closing honours for Middleham trainer Jedd O’Keeffe.

At Hamilton’s evening meeting, Hopes N Dreams can continue her merry run of form in the Steps And Peter Andre Live On Sat 7 July Handicap over six furlongs.

The speedy filly has won three of her last four starts, originally for Tony Coyle and more recently for Kevin Ryan and was most impressive here last week. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to stop her in her tracks with Julie Burke again taking the mount.
