Miles don't matter to some trainers when there's the chance of a winner at the end of it, which is just as well for Jim Goldie, who makes the long journey from his Glasgow base to Newbury in Berkshire tomorrow with River Falcon, a horse last seen out at York earlier this month.

On that occasion, the gelding finished a highly creditable fourth to Rising Shadow in the valuable Coral Sprint Trophy, a performance which was even better than it looks, given that River Falcon arguably had the worst of the draw in the 18-strong field.

Having previously also finished fourth at Haydock, where he missed the break in the race won by Sierra Vista, River Falcon has the profile of an in-form horse who only needs things to go right for him to end the season on a winning note.

Hopefully, all the pieces will fall into place in tomorrow's £20,000 Sodexho Prestige Handicap, in which long-distance traveller River Falcon is awarded the nap vote.

Cleaver goes for a hat-trick of wins in the Greene King IPA Apprentice Handicap.

Trained by Lady Herries, the five-year-old has won recently at Hamilton and Newcastle and, in his current form, he promises to take plenty of beating in the hands of Middleham apprentice Andrew Elliott, who rode him to victory at Hamilton.

Now Look Out may be up to winning the Sir Gerald Whent Memorial Nursery on only his second start.

Ed McMahon's juvenile made a winning debut at Nottingham, looking every inch a horse who would improve further with experience. He is up against more seasoned rivals here, but may have enough pace to put them in their place.

Jeepstar (3.05) - denied a winning opportunity on Tuesday after fog descended on Bath racecourse and caused the card to be abandoned - and Mick Channon's promising Mr Napper Tandy (3.40) are two others to note at Newbury.

At Lingfield, Extravagance will not be short of supporters in the lingfieldpark.co.uk Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Trained by Luca Cumani, the two-year-old created a good impression when finishing second to the odds-on Kaseema on her debut at Yarmouth, beaten a length and a half over six furlongs.

Stepping up to a mile here, she should be hard to beat.

Rose Of Petra looks an interesting runner for Sir Michael Stoute in the Lingfield Park Golf Club Nursery.

The youngster turned in a creditable front-running display on her latest outing over distance just short of seven furlongs at Brighton last time. Tomorrow's longer trip should suit her even better.

Tommy Toogood ran well enough when a close-up fifth over a mile at Newmarket last time to suggest that Barry Hills' charge should go well in the two-furlong longer lingfieldpark.co.uk Handicap.
