The £80,000 Bond Tyres Trophy is the centrepiece of Macmillan Charity Day at York tomorrow and Priceless Jewel looks set to sparkle for trainer Roger Charlton and jockey James Doyle.

A lightly-raced filly, who is a half-sister to Group 1-winning sprinter Tante Rose, Priceless Jewel got off the mark on the second of her two juvenile outings at Newbury.

This year, she has had just one run and, significantly, one win, in a hot handicap at Kempton, which she took in slick style. Moreover, the two horses that finished closest to her that day have since won three races between them.

This six-furlongs event is typically competitive with any amount of horses holding sound chances, but Priceless Jewel is not short of solid credentials and is napped to come out on top.

Reg Bond, sponsor of the feature race, has good prospects of figuring on the scoresheet himself. The Pocklington owner-breeder will be represented by Alfred Hutchinson in the Richard Howard-Vyse Memorial Handicap.

Winner of two of his three starts this season, Alfred Hutchinson scored on this course last month. Tomorrow’s longer trip is even more in his favour and it would be no surprise to see him follow up.

The opening £20,000 Queen Mother’s Cup is the richest race for lady amateur riders in Britain and last year’s winner, Crackentorp, may well score again for Tim Easterby and Jacqueline Coward.

The seven-year-old finished a good third on this course last month, just ahead of the Mick Easterby-trained Itlaaq, who reopposes with Joanna Mason – Jacqueline’s cousin – in the saddle. There will be plenty of family rivalry in this prestigious contest, which traditionally sees the winning rider awarded her weight in champagne.

Andrew Balding has a fast-improving horse in Tullius, who promises to be hard to beat as he goes for a hat-trick in the Ian And Kate Hall Macmillan Stakes. Jimmy Fortune has the mount.

The Richard Fahey-trained Area Fifty One shaped well on his seasonal debut here last month and is worthy of respect in the ladbrokes.com Handicap, in which Classic Colori looks sure to go well for David O’Meara.

Anderiego, also trained by O’Meara, is an interesting runner in the Charles Henry Memorial Handicap. A costly beaten favourite at Newcastle last time, when he was unable to reel in powerful galloper Polish World over seven furlongs, Anderiego now reverts to six furlongs.

Thirsk trainer David Barron bypasses York for Sandown, for a very good reason.

He saddles fast-rising star Pearl Secret in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Scurry Stakes at the Esher course, as the ultra-quick colt bids to extend his unbeaten sequence.

Off the mark on his debut on Knavesmire last October, Pearl Secret has won both his races this season, at Doncaster and back at York last month, in the style of a horse with a huge future as a sprinter.

Tomorrow’s target is a Listed race and Richard Hughes rides. I for one will be surprised if he is defeated.
