Paul Hanagan, with two Royal Ascot winners to his credit on behalf of Richard Fahey, his former long-time boss, can add to his tally tomorrow on behalf of his new guv’nor, Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

Hanagan rides Aljamaaheer in the opening Jersey Stakes and, in a wide-open race, is fancied to come up trumps aboard the Roger Varian-trained colt.

Lightly-raced Aljamaaheer has won two of his three races, most recently a Listed event at Newmarket, which, coincidentally, proved a successful stepping stone for previous Jersey winners, Jeremy and Tariq. Fingers are crossed that Aljamaaheer can complete a similar double for Hanagan.

Varian also has good prospects with Nahrain in the Windsor Forest Stakes.

Neil Callan’s mount went from strength to strength last season, elevating herself through maiden and handicap company to develop into a Group 1-winning filly. She has not, so far, been seen this season, but she is reportedly training well and is not to be underestimated.

The featured Prince Of Wales’s Stakes may prove to be by Royal appointment, courtesy of Carlton House, who carries the colours of Her Majesty the Queen.

There is a big stumbling block in So You Think, Aidan O’Brien’s classy Australian powerhouse, but Carlton House is a high-class performer in his own right.

Winner of last year’s Dante Stakes before coming up slightly short in the Derby, he made an encouraging return to action when winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown.

He looks sure to run a huge race, represesenting Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore.

The Royal Hunt Cup looks typically competitive but Captain Bertie is likely to go well for Charlie Hills and William Carson.

An unlucky loser of the Spring Mile at Doncaster’s opening meeting, Captain Bertie went on to win at Newbury. Trained since with this race in mind, he should not be far away.

Cheshire trainer Tom Dascombe has every chance of having a say in the outcome of landing the Queen Mary Stakes with Upward Spiral, the mount of Johnny Murtagh.

A debut winnner at Sandown, Upward Spiral has since been bought by Sheihk Fahad of Pearl Bloodstock. The best of her may still be to come.

The useful Electrelane may have to concede weight in the Sandringham Handicap, but Ralph Beckett’s useful filly has strong claims in a Listed race, in which Fahey’s Ladys First enters with a featherweight.

Fahey also has chances at Ripon with Personal Touch in the featured Watts Memorial Challenge Trophy Handicap.

The three-year-old has run three rock-solid races in defeat this season and is overdue a winning turn.

Thirsk trainer David Barron saddles Muffin McLeay in the ripon-races.co.uk handicap.

Although a disappointment at Beverley last time, Muffin McLeay had previously finished a creditable third in handicap company at York.

A reproduction of that effort would probably be good enough to take this ten-furlong event.
