Amaze, a 50-1 winner at Ripon three weeks ago, can ring the bell at Carlisle tomorrow.

Trained by Brian Ellison at Norton, the gelding, who has had only three races on the Flat, bids for the historic Lloyd Motor Group Carlisle Bell – one of the joint features on the biggest day of the summer at the Cumbrian course.

This one mile event, which carries £22,000 in prize money, is hotly contested every year and this year is no exception. But Amaze is the ‘dark horse’ in the race, given his lack of public experience.

At Ripon, he proved himself a useful addition to the Ellison string by defeating the red-hot favourite Stencive in a maiden race. There did not appear to be any fluke about that performance and Amaze proved himself on soft ground, which he faces again tomorrow.

Given a rating of 82, he hardly looks a blot on the handicap, but Amaze is a horse with bags of potential and it would be no surprise if he won again – just don’t expect 50-1 this time. Barry McHugh is again in the saddle.

Ellison and McHugh have double prospects with Best Trip in the Bet On Euro 2012 At totepool.com Handicap.

The five-year-old has proved a revelation since joining Ellison and has won his last two races, here and at Warwick. He has more on his plate this time, not least against Mick Easterby’s hat-trick scorer Pitkin, but Best Trip may be able to win again.

The totepool.com Cumberland Plate is tomorrow’s other feature event and Muffin McLeay is napped to score for in-form Thirsk trainer David Barron.

Beaten only a neck by Brockfield at Ripon last time after meeting trouble in running, Muffin McLeay gives the impression tomorrow’s extra two furlongs is what he’s been crying out for. A good third at York in May, he is overdue a winning turn and he is fancied to find it in this well-known race.

Tim Easterby has good prospects of lifting the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing Fillies’ Handicap with No Poppy.

Tough and consistent, No Poppy was narrowly denied at Thirsk on her latest outing. She deserves some reward for that effort and opportunity may come knocking for her in this seven furlong event. Stable apprentice Adam Carter, who knows her well, again has the mount.

While Easterby also has every chance of winning the Edinburgh Woollen Mills/European Breeders’ Fund Maiden Stakes with the progressive Team Challenge, Richard Fahey can bag the opening APD 25th Year Anniversary Maiden Auction Stakes with Boom And Bloom.

The two-year-old, a daughter of Lawman, went down by only half a length on her debut at Newcastle and can be expected to step up on that display.

At Salisbury, Sir Michael Stoute, who saddled two winners at Royal Ascot last week, looks the trainer to follow throughout the card, in company with his brilliant stable jockey Ryan Moore. The duo can win with newcomers Contradict (2.20) and Enrol (3.50), and also with Rye House (4.55).
