Hoof It, the star of Mick Easterby’s North Yorkshire yard, will be teamed up with Frankie Dettori at Newmarket today as he aims to get his career back on track after bombing out at York last month.

The Sheriff Hutton gelding, part-owned by top golfer Lee Westwood, went from strength to strength, twice winning on Knavesmire before running away with the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood and finishing off with a narrow defeat in the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.

On his re-appearance in last month’s Duke Of York Stakes, however, Hoof It failed to show anything like his customary dash and was comfortably beaten into fifth place after being sent off a well-backed favourite.

Clearly not himself at York, Hoof It is now pleasing the Easterby team and the John Sunley Memorial Conditions Stakes at Newmarket has been selected as a suitable race to return him to the fray.

He will be stepping up to seven furlongs, a distance over which he has never won, but Hoof It is the class horse in this Group 3 contest and is fancied to prevail.

Majestic Myles, trained by Richard Fahey and a good second at this level at Haydock last time, may be the one to follow him home.

Fahey has good prospects of going one better with Area Fifty One in the Fee Club Handicap over a mile-and-a-quarter.

The four-year-old, who has had only two runs for the Musley Bank trainer, went down narrowly at York two weeks ago.

He is open to further improvement with that race under his belt and Area Fifty One is marginally preferred to Media Hype, a Knavesmire winner last month.

The well-regarded City Image, trained by Richard Hannon, who placed her to win at Windsor on her debut, is fancied to step up to Listed class and follow up in the ACD Projects Supporting The Animal Health Trust Empress Stakes. Richard Hughes rides.

Also worth noting is Dandino in the Fred Archer Stakes.

Hayley Turner’s mount made Sea Moon dig deep last time at Goodwood and although that form may be misleading, it was highly encouraging to see the winner go so well at Royal Ascot last week.

At Salisbury tomorrow, York jockey Robert Winston can make his long journey worthwhile by winning the opening Wiltshire Community Foundation Blagrave Maiden Stakes on nap selection One Word More.

Trained by Charlie Hills, with whom Winston has a good rapport, One Word More showed a fair level of talent when chasing home the potentially high-class Toronado at Newbury on his latest start.

He can go one better, again tackling seven furlongs.

Paul Hanagan, Winston’s one-time stablemate at Richard Fahey’s Malton yard, has a couple of good chances on the Salisbury card.

He rides Anton Dolin, who should appreciate the step up in trip in the HS Lester Memorial Handicap, and the promising maiden Pulverize (4.50), trained by Sir Michael Stoute.
