LEEDS United were denied by an injury time equaliser as they drew 2-2 at Wolves in the Championship.

Central defender Danny Batth’s late strike at Molineux thwarted the visitors and ensured Wolves stayed out of the relegation zone, but only on goal difference.

Leeds bounced back from an own goal by captain Lee Peltier with a strike from Luke Varney and a Ross McCormack penalty.

United manager Neil Warnock, whose side had lost their previous four away league games, was left frustrated that two priceless points had been surrendered in their pursuit of a place in the play-offs.

He said: “The frustration for me is that we have just played Cardiff and Wolves and we should have had six points and I have got one out of both games. I want to get into the play-offs and I am disappointed that we are not in the play-offs and games are running out.”

Wolves broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when left-back Stephen Ward saw his low cross-shot deflected into the Leeds net at the near post by Peltier.

But their advantage was short-lived – lasting just seven minutes – as Varney latched on to a pass from McCormack and curled his right foot shot beyond goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

McCormack then made no mistake from the spot in the 77th minute after Bakary Sako was adjudged by the assistant referee to have fouled York-based Sam Byram.

But Batth’s first league goal for Wolves, heading home Jamie O’Hara’s cross, denied Leeds the win that would have boosted their play-off hopes.
