Leeds United forward El-Hadji Diouf has been fined two weeks’ wages for seeing red in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
The Senegalese striker was dismissed for making an offensive gesture towards the Seagulls fans after he scored from the penalty spot.
Leeds boss Brian McDermott said: “I’ve spoken to El-Hadji Diouf and he has apologised regarding the sending-off. He has accepted the sending-off and the club have fined him two weeks’ wages.
“I’ve had a good conversation with Dioufy regarding the future. He is fully committed for what is to come next season.”
United have launched an appeal against the red card for midfielder Rodolph Austin in the same match.
Meanwhile, York-born defender Sam Byram was rewarded for a superb rookie season as a pro when he won three awards at United’s end of season ceremony.
The 19-year-old was named the fans’ player of the year, players’ player of the year and young player of the year.
