A DOUBLE striking boost has been delivered to Leeds United ahead of tonight’s Championship clash at home to in-form Ipswich Town.

United boss Brian McDermott said he is not expecting any further bids for striker and captain Ross McCormack, while Luke Varney is hoping to press his claims after his recall for the first time in nine matches against Leicester.

Leeds spurned an offer from Premier League strugglers West Ham for McCormack last week prompting McDermott to say: “I am confident he will be here after the window closes on Friday. Ross has never asked to leave. He is my captain and he is a talisman for our team.

“He scores goals and he makes them as well. He has been a good leader for the team and for me and I’m confident he will remain here.”

There could be a departure from Elland Road with the manager adding: “There’s been interest in one of the players – not Ross – and we’ll see where that goes.”

Meanwhile, the back in harness Varney said he was raring to go.

“It is important now we look forward to the Ipswich game,” he said remembering how Leeds won at Portman Road earlier in the season.

Added the striker: “We’ll be ready to put them under the cosh at Elland Road.”
