ALAN Thompson's dismissal at Southampton will be reviewed by the FA Disciplinary Committee in London tomorrow.

The Leeds United midfielder was sent off after being involved in an incident with John Viafara and if his suspension is upheld, Thompson will miss the remaining two games of the campaign to avoid relegation and the first match of next season.

With Jonathan Douglas already suspended, manager Dennis Wise will be left with a skeleton midfield for the must-win games against Ipswich and Derby.

If Leeds lose to the Tractor Boys and Hull win at Cardiff, the Whites will be relegated.

Saturday's match again highlighted United's discipline problems and while Wise complains regularly about the standard of refereeing, there is no doubt that Leeds has one of the worst records in the Championship.

Thompson's red card was the club's fifth of the season, about average for the division, but the four yellow cards they also picked up took them to 100 for the season.

That is a record matched only by Saturday's visitors Ipswich and just one behind the Championship bad boys' West Brom who top both yellow (101) and red (nine) card tables. Colchester are the most disciplined side in the division with 48 yellow and only one red card.

The Football League's website reveals that Leeds average a booking every 5.9 tackles and with a suspended fine already hanging over them from last season, they will be hit in the pocket as well as on the field.
