Leeds started the game with four of their new signings playing against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final pre season friendly.

United lined up in 4-5-1, the favoured formation from the world cup, is this a sign of things to come or just a lack of fire power up front.

Leeds started the brighter of the two teams and should have taken the lead when Neil Kilkennys free kick was headed wide by Bradley Johnson. Johnson had another good chance when he pulled a shot just wide after Luciano Becchio had nicked the ball off the Wolves defence.

Kasper Schmeichel pulled off a smart save when Matt Jarvis beat the Leeds defence for pace, but the big Dane kept the scores level.

Max Gradel broke the deadlock when he smashed in a 25 yard shot giving Wayne Hennessey no chance in the Wanderers goal.

Wolves levelled on the stroke of half time when Matt Jarvis floated a free kick towards the far post which was missed by everyone to and found its way into the far corner of the net.

Wolves new signing Steve Fletcher almost put the visitors in front a minute after the restart, but Schmeichel made a great one handed save at the near post.

Leeds went back in front two minutes later when the ever lively Max Gradel beat the Wolves full back and pulled the ball back for Lloyd Sam to score.

Leeds brought on Alex Bruce for his first game on the hour mark and the former Ipswich defender slotted comfortably into the back four.

Both teams now made wholesale changes to change the shape of the teams.

Kevin Doyle almost levelled the game with a smart turn and shot only to be denied by Shane Higgs the United substitute keeper.

Bradley Johnson made the game safe when he headed in the 3rd goal with just five minutes remaining.

After the game, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said he was disappointed with his teams performance and that they had been well beaten by a very competitive Leeds team.

On the other hand the Leeds manager was pleased with his teams performance but said that next week’s game against Derby County is where it matters.

Simon Grayson also said that both Robert Snodgrass and Billy Paynter would under go scans on Monday to see the extent of their injuries, and this may determine if he brought in any new players.
