MATTHEW Kilgallon serves a one-match suspension at Luton tomorrow as Leeds United look to avoid propping up the Championship table for the first time.
York-born central defender Kilgallon yesterday appealed against a three-match ban for his sending-off by referee Colin Webster for "serious foul play" in an incident with Leicester striker Elvis Hammond on Tuesday night.
The ban was reduced to one match, leaving Kilgallon clear to face Southend United in both the Carling Cup and the Championship next week.
Kilgallon's place tomorrow is expected to go to Australian Hayden Foxe, the former Portsmouth defender, who is set for his first Championship start since landing a six-month contract in August. Foxe spent over two years battling to overcome a foot injury and seven months ago he was told he may never play again.
His only starts for United have been in the Carling Cup-ties against Chester and Barnet but he made substitute appearances in the league games against Sheffield Wednesday - who yesterday parted company with manager Paul Sturrock - and Leicester.
If United lose at Luton and Hull City draw or win at Preston, the Elland Road side will take over bottom spot. Beaten in their last three league games, they haven't won away from home since the 1-0 Yorkshire derby success at Sheffield Wednesday in August and they've taken just three points from the last 21 available, home and away.
It's a miserable situation and under-fire chairman Ken Bates will be hoping for a timely improvement from the players after the fans turned on him for the first time during the defeat against Leicester.
Winger Eddie Lewis is hoping for a recall after missing the defeat against Leicester because his wife gave birth to a son earlier in the day. Lewis could replace 19-year-old Adam Johnson, who is on loan from Middlesbrough and made his debut in midweek.
United are hopeful that striker Richard Cresswell will be fit after his hamstring tightened and he was taken off against Leicester, but left-back Alan Wright's calf injury is again expected to keep him out.
Midfielder Shaun Derry is available, as his one-match suspension for collecting five bookings does not kick in until next Tuesday's Carling Cup-tie against Southend.
