York Volleyball Club head into their last game of the season knowing a win against third-placed Haughton Darlington will seal second place in National League division three north, and a play-off for promotion to division two, writes Will Jackson.
York beat Peterborough Harriers 3-0 and Scorpion Polonia Leicester 3-2 to all but seal their place in the play-offs, where they will fight it out with the second placed teams from division three central and south for a place in division two.
There was heartbreak, however, as they were knocked out of the National Shield semi-finals by Northumbria/Middlesbrough Academy.
York bounced back the next day with a convincing win at Peterborough, taking the sets 25-9 25-18 25-20.
The second fixture was a much tighter affair against Leicester, with York winning 15-9 on a tie-break.
York’s final game of the season will take place at Haughton Darlington on April 6.
