SPRINT sensation Tom Somers capped a superb 2014 by winning the British Athletics Supporters Club Young Male Athlete of the Year award.
The 17-year-old City of York Athletic Club 200-metre runner received the accolade at the Supporters Club's annual dinner weekend at Brandon Hall, near Coventry.
Somers made great strides in his first season at under-20s level, clocking 20.37 seconds at the IAAF World Junior Championships in the summer.
It was the fastest 200 metre time for his age since Olympic sprint star Usain Bolt was taking the world by storm.
Last week it was confirmed that Somers would remain in British Athletics' Futures Programme for the next 12 months.
Evergreen long-distance runner Jo Pavey was the overall Supporters Club Athlete of the Year after winning 10,000 metres gold at the European Championships in Zurich at the age of 40.
