HAT-TRICKS from Jonny Brown and Jon Bell earned Acomb men’s II a 6-0 derby victory over City of York VII in Yorkshire League division five north.
Skipper Brown opened the scoring after two minutes and seven minutes later he added second after a pass from Jack Ellis. Bell’s 12th minute strike ensured the Tangerines went into the half-time break 3-0 in front.
Luke Yates teed up Brown’s hat-trick goal three minutes into the second half and, after 20 minutes of stalemate, Bell made it 5-0.
Bell completed his treble with a reverse stick effort late in the game, while the Acomb defence recorded their third clean sheet in four games.
Acomb I let slip a 2-0 lead as they lost 3-2 to York University III in division four north.
Dave Richardson and Matt Dickenson gave the Tangerines the upper hand, but the students clawed a goal back before half-time.
The second half was a totally different story as, despite the best efforts of man of the match Paul Kellett, the students drew level with about 15 minutes to go.
Acomb missed chances to regain the lead from penalty corners, but the university side snatched the winner three minutes from time.
Acomb ladies I also lost after taking the lead, going down 2-1 at home to Selby I in Yorkshire League division two. Acomb commanded the early stages and went 1-0 up through Jen Oldroy. Acomb lost left-back Caroline Beavers to injury and Selby quickly levelled, then went 2-1 up by half-time.
Georgi Wood was player of the match.
