CITY of York men's I maintained their two-point lead at the top of North Hockey League division one with a 2-2 draw against title rivals Sheffield University Bankers I.
The two teams went into the game at Huntington School unbeaten after eight games and they served up a tense and thrilling encounter.
Bankers were the first team on the scoresheet after the ball was fired across the 'D' to the back post to deflect in.
City of York responded well and, after Bankers conceded a short corner, Tom Feasby stepped up to powerfully smash the ball into the back-board.
The Bankers went in front again in the second half as an aerial found its way to an overloaded frontline, leaving the forwards with time to pass between them before slotting past the keeper.

Lincoln Roses II dished out a lesson for City of York III, winning 7-0 in division two.
Roses opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a penalty flick after Will Sorby was adjudged to have stopped the ball on the line with his foot and the first half ended 3-0 to Roses.
City of York's performance dipped in the second half and the defeat might have been heavier but for good goalline clearances from Hugh Richards and Sorby.
City of York IV recorded their tenth consecutive victory with a 6-0 success at Chapeltown II in division three.

They then took the lead when persistence down the right from Joe Moisley set up Will DeSilva to score.
However, Boston Spa regrouped and hit back with an equaliser and they snatched all three points with a third goal.
City of York VI were 4-0 winners were beaten 6-2 at Boston Spa III in division five north, while City of York VII went down 6-0 at home to Acomb II in the same division.
City of York VIII claimed a 4-0 victory at home to Harrogate V in division six north.
City of York Badgers drew 3-3 with Huddersfield.
York took a deserved lead through Millie Redshaw and they created several other chances, with Jack Allerton breaking through with his pace on the right hand side and combining well with Jacob Birch.
Huddersfield drew level but York extended their lead just before half-time with Redshaw adding her second.
Redshaw completed her hat-trick after exchanging passes with Nicole Wood.
Huddersfield stepped up their play in the final ten minutes and managed to convert a couple of chances with some good strikes.
