THE long-running York Charity Cricket Cups have been held for the last time.
The secretary and assistant secretary both stood down at the recent annual meeting and no replacements have come forward, giving officials no option but to axe the competitions.
The competitions, which have run for 84 years, will be formally wound up at an extraordinary meeting at Osbaldwick Sports Club next Thursday at 8.15pm.
Secretary Alan Robinson said: “The committee felt that there was no alternative to winding up the competition as there had been no response to finding a replacement secretary and assistant secretary.
“The decision was taken with much regret, as the competition has been in being for 84 years continuously, apart from some years during the Second World War.”
