FREE-SCORING City of York men's I took their goal tally to 50 in ten North Hockey League division one outings with a 5-1 win at Sheffield Hallam II.

League leaders York inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on their hosts to remain two points clear at the top of the table.

Some skilful dribbling down the right by Stephen Paterson resulted in the ball landing at the feet of Richie Cockram and he opened the scoring.

York's Mike Carter then intercepted a ball from a Hallam midfielder and fed it to Alex Cockram. The forward dribbled to the right, fooled the keeper into going to ground and then lifted the ball over him for a 2-0 lead.

After half-time, York again went on the attack and Tom Feasby drove home a powerful shot against his old team to make it 3-0.

The ball was soon back in the Hallam 'D' and, after some clinical passing between the forwards, Mike Carter was on hand at the back post to tap home.

Sheffield replied with a goal after the York defence struggled to clear from a period of possession, but the visitors almost immediately powered down to the other end of the pitch where Ben Bull was able to beat the keeper to a vicious cross and deflect into the goal.

As York dominated the latter stages a Hallam attacker received a 'technical red' for separate yellow cards.

City of York II emerged from a weekend double header in the Yorkshire League premier division with only one point after a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Hallam III and a 3-2 defeat at Sheffield University Bankers III.

City of York III bounced back from a mauling by Lincoln Roses II to beat Leeds Adel II 5-2 in division two.

The home side went in front on 25 minutes, but City of York levelled two minutes later when Ben Foster scored a rebound after his initial effort had been saved.

Adel took the lead just before half-time when they were awarded a flick for York handling from a short corner.

Rob Prentice pulled York level early in the second half and then Mark Moisley played in Andrew Brewster, who calmly swept the ball past the diving keeper.

Tim Lister then rounded the keeper and scored from a tight angle before debutant Jono Trowsdale set up a second for man of the match Brewster.

Division three leaders City of York IV were 5-0 home victors against basement side Scarborough I.

Nathan Wilson saved a penalty flick to preserve his fourth consecutive clean sheet and, despite Scarborough's keeper having an excellent game, two goals from Russell Bowry and one each from Greg Sykes, Henry Wilson and James Fitton took York to a comfortable 11th consecutive win.

City are now 12 points clear at the top of the table.

City of York V beat Thirsk I 3-2 in division four north - despite playing the majority of the match without a keeper.

Graham Cook stood in as kicking back and a superb York defensive effort meant Thirsk created very few opportunities.

However, just before half-time, the visitors eventually scored when they seized on a rare loose ball in the area.

York immediately won a short corner and equalised through Oliver Sanderson.

York's keeper took to the field in the second half and immediately made a great save before Thirsk scored a second goal.

However, York kept pushing and winning short corners, with a second converted well by Sanderson followed by a third by Pat Birch.

City of York VII were 1-0 winners at Huddersfield Dragons IV in division five north.

Matt Besford got the winning goal midway through the first half and City of York then kept their hosts at bay, with goalkeeper Jack Feasby turning in a brilliant display.
