ACOMB men's I will be sent to finishing school after missing a stack of chances in their 1-0 victory at Halifax III in Yorkshire Hockey League division four north.
The Tangerines started well but were unable to find a cutting edge in front of goal, despite winning a series of penalty corners.
Dave Richardson intercepted the ball and found Matt Dickenson unmarked in the area and he smashed it in.
Man of the match Simon Theaker gave a masterclass in passing for Acomb, but his side were unable to convert the numerous second half chances they created.
Acomb II were hit by a late Halifax IV equaliser as they drew 5-5 in division five north.
The Tangerines forged into a fourth minute lead through Harry Ellis and, after Halifax equalised, he bagged a second on 16 minutes.
Halifax hit back with two goals to lead 3-2, but Acomb went in 4-3 up at half-time thanks to strikes by skipper Jonny Brown and Ellis.
Brown added his second a minute after the restart, but Halifax responded 20 minutes into the second period and claimed a share of the spoils with a goal in the last few minutes.
Acomb ladies I were beaten 4-1 at Ben Rhydding III in Yorkshire League division two.
Acomb absorbed tremendous pressure from the hosts thanks to a man of the match performance by Wendy Watson, backed by fellow defenders Jane Elsworth and Sam Storr.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Acomb conceded three second half goals before Kerry Woods scored a superb goal.
