ACOMB extended their lead at the top of the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League with a 5-1 win over second-placed Fulford, writes Alan Reed.
Dan Potter beat Wayne Puleston (21 break) to start the ball rolling, then Mick Borg continued his fine form by hitting a 45 break and easily beating Bob Smith 150-77.
However, Alan Reed had a comfortable win for Fulford with a 150-103 success against Trevor Ventress to reduce the aggregate arrears.
A fine win by Paul Holmes (24 and 23 breaks) by 150-38 over Terry Ward (73 break) sealed the aggregate point and then John Ashwell completed the win by pipping Jamie Husband 150-141.
In the other match, Heworth got off to a flying start against Bootham, with Darren Clark hitting form with a 51 break and running out with an unfinished break of 60 in his win over Matt Smith.
This was followed by Gary Rogers’ victory over Tim Fillingham (31 break), with Rogers just failing to hit the first century of the season with a break of 97 followed by a 42.
Paul Mahoney and Ian Robinson both won for Bootham after close matches against Brian Birch and Keith Watkinson respectively, but Heworth secured a 4-2 win and the aggregate with Mark Winskill (49 break) beating Alf Appleby.
