A SEE-SAWING duel ended with York Indoor Bowls Club ousting Lincoln by one point in the Vivienne Trophy.
Early leads for York at 22-12 after five ends, 48-21 after ten and 68-43 after 15, were clawed back by Lincoln before York's nerve held to register an 83-82 triumph and earn a tie against Leicester on January 15.
At Thanet Road, both home rinks opened solidly. Audrey Micklethwaite, Joan Knight, Kath Pepper and Barbara Dawson 15-0 lead after ten ends underpinned a 26-10 triumph, while a 10- lead after six ends was carved out by Doreen McCowan, Janet McManus, Tina Robinson and Pat Potter led 10-0 after six ends and 16-7 with six ends to go.
However, they ran out of steam, losing all remaining six ends for a 19-16 defeat.
In Lincoln, Pam Richardson, Maggie Pallister, Pauline Armitage and Brenda Martin fought off a brief home rally to prevail 25-18.
Sue Jeffrey, Jenny Darrell, Maureen Robinson and Pat Bracken countered strongly to trim a 11-1 deficit. But after getting back to just 19-16 down they faded to a Lincoln onslaught and lost 35-16.
A TEN-SHOT deficit from the away leg was overhauled by York 'A' en route to a fine 86-71 conquest of North Cave White in the Yorkshire Over-55s League first division.
Away, York's Dudley Williams, Gordon Walker, Tex Stevens and Malcolm Thompson were ahead up until the 18th end when they snatched defeat from bictory to lose 20-18.
Taking the last two ends for a 24-16 lost proved invaluable for the aggregate score as Alan Vowles, Chris Bishop, Roger Ford and Phil Parsons rallied from an initial 10-0 deficit.
A solid opening paved the way for Ray Calpin, Barry Walker, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone to win 23-10 at home, where team-mates John Micklethwaite, Malcolm Harrison, Eric Hodgson and Geoff Walker shrugged aside arrears of 11-8 to card a comfortable 28-17 success.
YORKSHIRE Ladies totalled a superb 115-104 Atherley Trophy over Lincolnshire at Sleaford IBC.
Joan Jackson, Carol Banks, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone led the way, only losing seven ends in a huge 36-7 victory, while Yorkshire’s only other winning rink came from Beryl Alderson’s team who dominated the last seven ends for a 21-15 victory.
Linda Wiles, Lynda Parker, Zoe Eagles and Helen Walker came back well winning six of the last seven ends to lose 19-18 after trailing 18-10. Hayley Macdonald, Sue Armstrong, Jane Simpson and Sue Allen also put up a good show despite losing 18-15.
Cath Shaw, Pat Walker, Betty Richardson and Helen Wood matched the home side for most of the game but a dropped seventh on the 11th end proved key in a 23-16 defeat. Lydia Cutmore, Jill Skinner, June Clayton and Linda Harrison suffered a heavy 22-9 loss.
Yorkshire will play Nottinghamshire in the quarter-finals at Thanet Road on Sunday, January 4.
YORK play their Denny Cup tie against Cumbria on Saturday from 10.30am, before hosting their first Yorkshire Ladies League fixture against Leeds at noon.
The Mason Trophy tie between York and Harrogate will be on Monday, starting at 12.30pm.
