DAVE DALE and Tony Moore notched their first victory in the York Indoor Bowls Club Tom Forbes Pairs competition.
The tournament proved to be one of the most popular in its history as 20 teams started off with a round-robin format, which culminated in a knockout basis for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
Dale and Moore won the first two ends of the final, scoring a three then a single before opponents Roger Ford and Mal Bulmer levelled with exactly the same scores over the next two ends.
Dale and Moore responded with a four, only for the game to be drawn close again as they dropped a two then a single.
A two then a single opened a four-shot gap, but Ford and Bulmer drew level at 11-11 on the tenth end.
Dale and Moore then won six of the following seven ends to lead 20-12 going into the last, where they dropped a single to make the final score 20-13.
York & District IBC are gearing up for a busy Sunday as they host the Atherley Trophy tie between Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, and the Darlington versus Erewash EIBA Under-25s tie, with both games starting at 12.30pm.
Then, at 2pm, Dave Stroughair’s team take on Scarborough player Adrian Bird’s side in the national men’s fours.
